A use a lot of puzzle/reveals in my science lessons, and more and more I'm finding that when the answer to the question is a photograph, a cheap-yet-attention-addicting trick is to cover the photo with a black layer, and gradually erase little bits of it. (When appropriate, I let kids guess what it is as I go.)

This IS a "lovely little way to learn about the world." I know you read this post awhile back. Thought I'd share here for readers of this piece. Has stuff about graphs I use in history class.
