My _goodness_ I loved teaching fifth grade. (And being a fifth grader!) Here's to a year of thick joys!

Congrats on making it to summer and the new job for next year! I’m interested to hear how you like it. One of the things I’m starting to wonder is if it is easier to “systematize” (for lack of a better word) math teaching in elementary compared to secondary. It seems like at least the goals of math class are much clearer in 4th grade, say, than they are in 11th.

Congratulations on moving on down!

All the very best, Dylan! Quite uncommon a shift in a world where the goal is often to teach to higher grades. But this is quite enriching. The insights from seeing how kids learn other subjects is going to be incredibly useful to becoming a better maths teacher and a better educator overall.

You should really enjoy the change. Often the best secondary teachers have an elementary school background, so they understand actual learning as against dispensing a subject.

Congratulations! I’m excited for you. 5th grade is best grade level in the world! Let me know how I can help you make the transition to elementary. I’m happy to chat anytime this summer.
